According to the legend of M’nong tribe, once upon a time, after a long and drastic battle between the God of Fire and the God of Water, the God of Water was defeated, which caused a drought for the land. In such a circumstance, a boy who was the result of the unacceptable love between the God of Fire and an M'nong girl was born. In order to atone for his parents' mistake, the boy later left the village to search for water to save the tribe. After a long and risky adventure, he once sat down to rest and saw an eel stuck in a crack of a rock. The young man decided to save the eel. In return, the eel led him to an immense lake which is now Lak Lake (Lak in M’nong language means Water)

Surrounded by 12,000 hectares of primeval forests, Lak Lake also attracts the tourists by its diversified ecosystem. It is estimated that there exist 548 botanical species of 118 different families, 132 bird species, 61 mammalian species, and 43 amphibian species including reptiles, of which some species are considered valuable and rare. In addition, Lak Lake is also home to numerous aquatic species such as shrimps, crabs, and fish which are supposed to bring great economic benefit for local residents around the lake

Coming to Lak Lake today, tourists can travel on dug-out canoes or ride on elephants to enjoy the beautiful landscape of the lake. Tourists can also visit M’nong villages or explore the forest.

Beside the natural beauty and mysterious legend, tourists can have opportunity to discover the traditional culture of the M’nong tribe – one of the unique cultures of the Central Highlands' ethnic groups.
